I do think 3D is inevitable. Eventually it'll just be included in almost all sets and the cost differential between a 3D and non-3D tv will essentially be the price of the glasses. But it's going to take 3-4 years at least. Anyone saying that you'll see widespread adoption by 2012, either works for Sony or they expect the end of the Mayan calendar to usher in a new world order in which everyone is one with the universe and wears 3D glasses. It could happen. :-)

Considering it's just 2D images being shuffled to create an illusion.

Why didn't manufacturers offering this gimmick in models 12-24 months ago when most of us upgraded to true HD TVs?

Not all inventions become adopted standards...

Remember Virtual Reality Head Sets in the 90s? Where are they now?

And what happened to last years hype about Laser TVs and then OLED TVs?

Remember these audio formats?
HD-CD, SA-CD and DVD-A... They were all supposed to replace CD-A.

Problem now is PS3 fanboys think it is the next best thing... why? Cos Sony says so.
Just another ploy by Sony to sell more TVs. Convince all the PS3 owners out there they need one by giving the PS3 an update to support 3D. Very clever Sony.
In reality playing games in 3D is nothing new and you've been able to buy 3D shutter glasses for PC for years. It really isn't all that impressive.

Couldn't agree more. I hope businesses get over this ASAP, because no-one else cares...
